Archaïos is involved in the production of several archaeological maps. Using a geographical information system (GIS), we map all traces left by human societies on the landscape (settlements, nomadic settlements, funeral sites, caves, fortification systems, irrigation systems, historic buildings, cultural sites, production workshops).
The main objective is to produce a sufficiently comprehensive map that will enable local heritage institutions (Ministry of Culture, Directorate of Antiquities) to protect sites from the main threat, namely the extension of cities or, in some cases, armed conflicts. The map will subsequently become a very powerful scientific tool that can be used to attract international community attention, while providing a wealth of information for researchers who will be able study the history of a region over the long term, by analyzing the evolution of human settlements.
