Iraq archaeological map (IQAM)

Iraq

2019-2022

Presentation

Archaïos is one of the partners of the project ” Revitaliser la valorisation du patrimoine archéologique de l’Irak “, supported by a Fonds de solidarité pour les projets innovants, les sociétés civiles, la francophonie et le développement humain (FSPI) of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Archaïos is in charge of proposing to the Iraqi state a dynamic national archaeological map system, so that the latter can manage the protection of its heritage in line with the country’s economic development. This project involves training our colleagues from the GIS and database department of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage.
At the same time, Archaïos is also in charge of the intra-site study of the sites of Larsa (directed by R. Vallet) and Khorsabad (directed by P. Butterlin), through pedestrian surveys and photo-interpretation. These studies will facilitate the resumption of excavations by the two archaeological missions and the spatial understanding of the sites.
